Tunnel–piled structure interaction: Numerical simulation of hybrid centrifuge tests

چکیده
Tunnel excavation in urban areas causes ground movements that could damage existing nearby piled structures. Geotechnical centrifuge modelling has been widely used as a tool to study problems related tunnelling activities and its interaction with infrastructure systems. Recent hybrid tests using the Coupled Centrifuge-Numerical Modelling (CCNM) approach have provided high-quality experimental data of soil–piled structure interactions dry sand, demonstrating role stiffness on head load transfer among piles subsequent impact pile shaft resistance tunnel volume loss. This paper extends set finite element numerical analysis problem, providing additional insights into complex interactions. An advanced hypoplastic constitutive model was adopted for soil and, enable appropriate comparison results, conditions within were replicated numerically. Despite some discrepancies between particular limitations soil–pile interface model, results from simulations are shown broadly agree test data. Numerical explore effect settlements development radial stresses around piles, well stress paths at interface. These provide complement extend current understanding taking place.

Numerical simulation of centrifuge tests on homogeneous and heterogeneous soil models
Soil liquefaction is a major cause of seismic damage in cohessionless soil during earthquakes. From past numerical and experimental research it has been observed that more excess pore water pressure (EPWP) is generated during earthquakes in a heterogeneous soil deposit than in the corresponding homogeneous soil with relative density equal to the average relative density of the heterogeneous soi...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Fluid-Structure Interaction Problems on Hybrid Meshes with Algebraic Multigrid Methods
Fluid-structure interaction problems arise in many fields of application such as flows around elastic structures or blood flow in arteries. The method presented in this paper for solving such a problem is based on a reduction to an equation at the interface, involving the so-called Steklov-Poincaré operators. This interface equation is solved by a Newton iteration, for which directional derivat...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Fluid-Structure Interaction in Human Phonation
Fluid-structure interaction in a simplified two-dimensional model of the larynx is considered to study human phonation. The flow is driven by an imposed pressure gradient across the glottis and interacts with the moving vocal folds in a self-sustained oscillation. The flow is computed by solving the 2D compressible Navier–Stokes equations using a high order finite difference method, which has b...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of hull and propeller interaction in acceleration maneuver
Prediction of a ship’s trajectory during a maneuvering motion is so important. In this study, the acceleration maneuver for a twin-screw vessel is directly investigated using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) environment and unsteady RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) solver. For this purpose, the self-propulsion and acceleration simulations with hull and propeller interaction for the well-...
